Great post Chris! One thing to add: if some ambitious website (cough, filmfestivalsecrets, cough) were to create a calendar with ALL the festival deadlines and notification dates and make it public, we'd all be able to view it.

That's a project I've certainly thought about but it would be an ambitious one and would require constant updates. Plus you'd still want to keep your own calendar for the sake of tracking just the festivals you're interested in.
